Melbourne Airport engaged Eifer’s to source a design & installation for the newly located Forward Command Post (FCP) at the northern end of the airfield, with Low Voltage (LV) power and communications conduits upgrade to the adjacent building. The project required working on live operational airport and with security personal (WSO’s) to get the project completed.
The location that Melbourne Airport chose for the new FCP was towards the northern end of the airfield, however it was situated in an existing drainage area which required removal of sludge, geo-fabric laid and compaction of Class 3 20mm crush rock. Piers holes for the structure drilled & concrete poured once these had cured we were able to assemble the structure with new plumbing & drainage was re-connected into the existing drainage line.
The other stage of the project was service locating & proving, 400m of trenching, laying of 2 x 100mm LV and communication conduits, installations of 10 pits, back filling with compaction sand, installation of services ID tape and then spoil clean and removal. These conduits upgrade gave new life to the ailing Airfield Lighting Equipment Room (ALER).
The project was safely completed on-time and under budget with Melbourne Airport extremely happy.
